JERUSALEM (VINnews) — A U.S. secret service member is on his way back to the United States after an altercation in Jerusalem left him in Israel police custody, according to multiple reports.

It is unclear how the incident started, but the man allegedly assaulted a woman outside a Jerusalem bar.
A Secret Service spokesman told CBS News that they were briefed on the incident late Monday, and the agent was “briefly detained and questioned by Israeli police, who released him without charges.”
“The employee has returned to the United States,” the spokesman said. “In accordance with agency protocol, his access to Secret Service systems and facilities was suspended pending further investigation.”
Israeli police and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declined to comment on the incident.
A source familiar with the matter told CBS that investigators are looking into whether the agent was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
The incident occured as President Biden was preparing for his Wednesday trip to Israel.
