thats not a controversial take. Ben is not a fan of the welfare state as a general concept. Its not the secular governments job to be paying for yeshivot.

The infatuation with Ben Shapiro by all too many in our community is out of control. Ben Shapiro does not represent the Torah viewpoint plain and simple. Shapiro is a right wing activist who happens to be Jewish. His publicly espoused views that run the gamut of issues are right wing populist and are not based on Torah or Judaism.

That’s one reason rabbi Yosef mizrachi said a long time ago that although Ben Shapiro seems to be on target in politics, he should not be followed for his hashkafos.

That was one of the reasons some Gedolim were vehemently opposed to yeshivas taking subsidies and financial aide, because the aide would be used as an excuse for some to demand that the talmidim shut their gemorahs and postpone the continuous, never-ending, eternal and vital mitzvah of לא־ימוש ספר התורה הזה מפיך והגית בו יומם ולילה.

He didn’t criticize chareidim as the headline reads. He himself is chareidi.
He criticized those who give money to chareidim when they don’t hold of the chareidi values. Listen again

We need to realize that he is NOT a Charedi. he is a modern Orthodox Jew, a strong supporter of Israel and a Zionist. a conservative, a strong Gun suporter. we can agree with him on many issues and disagree on Army service. He is entitled to his opinions. He is allowed to criticize us, we are not woke snowflakes!. are we?

And I sympathize with the people who can’t learn a lick or don’t have the patience to sit and try to learn a lick and go serve in the IDF and lose every bit of frumkeit they had.

I wonder what would happen if somebody pointed out to Ben Shapiro that his statement is actually incorrect. First of all throughout the history of Judaism, it was always set aside that a certain amount of the population was going to be learning while the others were going to be in the army etc. This is nothing new, it didn’t start in 1948. It’s actually started 3,000 years ago or so. Look it up!
It should also be said, and he probably doesn’t know this, that if thedina wouldn’t make such crazy laws prohibiting people from earning money, those who are earning money on the side, would then probably become taxpayers as well and thus contribute so to speak in that way. But when you’re standing in the way of people doing what they need to do, you cause a lot of black market activities. It’s the country’s own fault for their stupidity.
