JERUSALEM (VINnews) — In an interview on the Kikar Hashabat site, MK Moshe “Kinli” Tur-Paz (Yesh Atid) who was the mediator between the Belz chasidim and the Education Ministry revealed that the new arrangement with the chasidus has nothing to do with the Mamlachti Chareidi program.

Tur-Paz stressed that the new arrangement started because Belz and other chasidic groups approached the authorities and said that “it’s illogical that we are willing to include a much broader core curriculum but do not receive commensurate budgets”. The ministry together with the Treasury formed a curriculum based on the Chinuch Atzmai and not on the Mamlachti Chareidi curriculum and on this basis they will receive budgets. Tur-Paz emphasized that the new arrangement does not interfere with the schools independence and maintains their educational goals.

“This is not Mamlachti-Chareidi, that stream is for the more modern chareidi groups. This arrangement maintains the guidelines of the Chinuch Atzmai. There is no interference with the educational content, it’s all fake news, extremists and others who are jealous. The framework is exactly the same as that of the Chinuch Atzmai.

Tur-Paz, a resident of Kfar Etzion, was a senior member of the Jerusalem Municipality and supervised chareidi education in the capital before joining the Knesset. In this capacity he met with Belz leaders and decided to help them receive equal budgets since they agreed to teach the core curriculum.

Everyone gets out of this what they want (or think they are)

The Israeli government:
the broke the taboo and got a large Chasidus into an education agreement, and  a taboo once broken opens the door for other Chasidus’ who will surely also want in on the action.. to make similar deals. They surely THINK they have accomplished something

The Satmar Rebbe and other detractors:
What a wonderful opportunity to knock down belz a few pegs while showing how holy they are in Not taking any funds from the Treifene Medinah, knowing all the while that this new injection of funds will strengthen the Belz leadership, so they stand from the side with envy salivating for the millions Belz will now have, knowing all to well that they themselves cannot have it as they already boxed themselves into a corner being holier 7 not taking any funds. So they do the only thing they have left to do: criticize.

The Belz leadership:
What a fabulous deal, millions for doing nothing.  yes they’ll take some hits on the extreme Charedi “street”. Nothing that can’t be PR’d away by making it clear internally that they actually won’t change the curriculum by one aotta.  Wink wink.
Belz Hasidim:
Nothing. They won’t get anything out of this, they were not part of the negotiations, nobody asked them, and as the saying goes if you are not at the table then you are ON the table….

Mr. Shtark (so called interior ministry of Belz) gave a long lecture to Belz Yeshivah boys 3 days ago where he ridiculed the Israeli government, laughing at them how stupid they were to agree to give Belz additional millions without Belz having to actually change anything. He stressed again and again that there won’t be ANY change in the curriculum. the only change is increased government funding.

During the same lecture he mocked Israel president Isaac Herzog’s recent visit the Belzer Rebbe, saying that he sat there submissively as the Belzer Rebbe ignored him at the meeting, in his words, the president started out in a loud smiling voice . “ma shlom harav” as if he’s talking to some freind or politician! but the Rebbe ignored him, did not respond to him, putting him in his place….

So this is the shrewd strategy of Belz – tell Israeli government officials that Belz is progressive, forward looking, interested in broadening their education, unlike other more extreme Chardeim, wetting the appetite of the secular leadership’s strong desire to see Charedim integrate in the workforce and contributing to Israel’s economy, then negotiating hard for the most funding for the least amount of actual education, then finally convincing its own members and the Charedi public at large that they are in fact NOT changing anything in the curriculum, that its just increased funding with no string attached

and the truth is what they say internally – that they won’t comply with the new rules, and as a result Belze Talmidim won’t have any better job prospects. all that will change is that some few at the top will now have additional millions to line their pocket

They are all jealous. Both Satmar and the Litvakes. Belz will teach some English and math for the good of their Oilam. They will get funded just like the Litvaks get from Chinuch Atzmai.
The Belzer Rebbe shlita is smart and cares for his Oilam

He believes that the success of the outline will bring more Hasidic and other ultra-Orthodox communities into the fold.
