Currently the law has permitted three such slaughterhouses to exist, two of which are in the Christian Arab villages of Eeblin and Me’ilia. However minister Oded Forer is promoting an amendment to the law which would allow the establishment of slaughterhouses throughout the country.

The proposed bill claims that “there are no professional reasons for restricting abbatoirs to those particular villages. The restriction was enacted 20 years ago and allowed the establishment of factoried in places which today are irrelevant. Removing the geographic restriction will allow establishment of factories in appropriate places as long as they meet veterinary requirements and maintain public health and the health of animals slaughtered within them.”

The ministry claims that by removing restrictions they can “reduce cost of living, improve competition between factories and lower prices, allowing the meat to be available to the entire population.”

MK Moshe Gafni (UTJ) responded stating that “Yisrael Beitenu had failed in all it has done, the cost of living has soared to unprecedented levels. The entire country is full of strikes, nothing is functioning and in order to put aside the burning issues they try and harm the Jewish state so that there will be arguments and they can be the champions of anti-religious legislation. We are on the eve of elections and the attorney-general must stop this dangerous provocation immediately.”

MK Moshe Arbel (Shas) said that “I approached the agriculture minister on the matter. The current situation in which pigs can be raised for food in two Christian villages is balanced. The change Yisrael Beitenu leader Avigdor Liberman is trying to implement is undemocratic. We are a Jewish state, and besides, where are all the animal rights organizations at this juncture?”

Pre election pandering.

feeble attempt by politicians to shore up their unsteady base. Forer with pig farms, Michaeli with public transportation on the Sabbath.

Not sure why this is the line in the sand. Pig, while not kosher is 100% permittable to the various other ethnic groups that live in Israel. We should be protesting the Toieva LGBQT+++ parades that is desecrating our holy ground.

Shocking??

A State where in its constitution it says that it will protect all religious institutions defying what it says in the Torah  אבד תאבדון את כל המקמות אשר עבדו שם הגוים.

A Jewish State where Millions of Jews are Mechalal Shabbos, eating Trief, eating on Yom Kippur and basically living life as full fledge Goyim so more pig eating being in the news is really no news and for sure not shocking.
