‘They’re Shooting At Us, I Got Hit In The Leg’: 2 Injured, 1 Seriously, In Illegal Entry To Yosef’s Tomb

19

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Shechem has recently been the scene of numerous violent altercations between the IDF and local terrorists. In the last month the IDF has arrested and eliminated a number of terrorists in the vicinity. In a firefight which took place Tuesday at a village near Shechem, two terrorists who had shot at an IDF army base in Shavei Shomron on Friday surrendered and were apprehended by the IDF. The two 18-year-olds had hidden in the village but were located by the Shin Bet and, after their parents intervened with them, surrendered to IDF soldiers.

Despite these tensions, Israelis – most of them chasidim of Rabbi Eliezer Berland – still make numerous clandestine attempts to reach Yosef’s Tomb, which is situated in Shechem and cannot legally be reached without coordinating entries with the IDF, which secures the way to and from the tomb.

Late on Monday night, a group of five people illegally entered Shechem and tried to reach the tomb. The group were ambushed and fired on by terrorists and two were injured, one moderately and one seriously. The unarmed group called IDF soldiers nearby for assistance and hid in bushes to escape, while the Palestinians burnt their car. In a chilling recording of the incident, one of the group can be heard speaking to the emergency line, stating that he is being fired upon and then stating that he was shot in the leg.

The man starts by saying: “they’re shooting at us in Shechem, they’re shooting. [shots can be heard in the background].  I got hit in the leg, he shot at the car from point-blank range and ran off.” He is asked whether he can evacuate in the car but responds that “We had an accident, the car is immobile.” He then says that he has gone to hide in some bushes together with the other members of the group, who are all unarmed,  but cannot state his location since he does not have a GPS phone.

The father of one of the injured people said that “when they entered the area they saw a Palestinian car following them. The driver got flustered and drove into a wall. The group got out the car and hid in bushes and while they were fleeing, they were shot at and saw Palestinians burning the car.

The army eventually arrived and evacuated the group. The two injured people are Gavriel Yosef ben Rina and Natan ben Tehilla.

chasidim of Rabbi Eliezer Berland”

Rabbi?? A man condemned by gedolei Yisroel, caught in cardinal sins, is called a “Rabbi” here? What’s next? Are you going to start promoting the “Lev Tahor” cult?

I’m sorry but can someone explain to me why are Yiddish soldiers mechuyav to go jeopardize their lives to save others who deliberately put themselves in sakana?
Who says דומא דידך סומק טפי?? I’m sorry but in my opinion let these guys go on their or own accord and whatever happens to them; is on them. The issues will resolve itself.
Perhaps Rav Hoffman can chime in to provide some clarity here.

It’s dangerous enough when there’s an authorized visit. How dumb can someone get.

The handing-over of Kever Yosef was illegal: It occurred when the Barak government ordered an evacuation of the permanent presence of troops there, at the beginning of the 2nd Intifada, 21 years ago, on Rosh Hashanah. Before this, Israeli Citizens could go there whenever they pleased. The current “illegality” stems from a military decree, and the Torah concept of Pikuah Nefesh; but this Holy Place should not be considered “Sovereign Palestinian Territory!”

STOP GOING THERE. ENDANGERING YOURSELF AND THE IDF SOLDIERS WHO HAVE TO RESCUE YOU.

Plenty of other tzadikim’s graves to visit if that is what you want to do. Go to Tzefas or Teverya.

Why do they accuse Israel of apartheid? Jews cannot enter some areas where Arabs live without fear for their lives . The only solution is to move the Arabs to another country. Israeli freedom fighters should take full control of Yehuda and Shomron and exile the Arabs who don’t want to recognize Istael sovereignity over the area. Jews should not be afraid in their own land.

No where in the Torah does it say that one must go to Shechem, Meron, Uman, Catskills, Karister, Orlando, Dubai, etc etc. Just because some sleazy travel agent wants to milk off of the bored rich guys, doesn’t make it right.

A bunch of crazies all those who go into a lions den. As if there is any Mitzvah to go to Schechem.

Right wing twisted ideology has killed already numerous Jewish families. For what? For nationalism? This is against what real Torah Yidden stand for.

kever yosef, the paradigm tzaddik, seems to be a dangerous place to visit.
recently, so too is the kever of Rebbe nachman, one of the next Tzaddikim of the generation.

the entire Bechinah of tzaddik and yesod, shalom and chaim, kedusha vdaas, is under attack!
