The eight MKs included Idit Silman (Likud) Boaz Bismuth (Likud) Nissim Vaturi (Likud), Amichai Chikli (Likud) Yoni Mashriki (Shas) Almog Cohen (Jewish Force) Ohad Tal (Religious Zionism) and Limor Son Har Melech (Jewish Force). They were accompanied by Samaria regional head Yossi Dagan and his deputy Davidi Bentzion.
Dagan said that “arriving in the middle of the night after petrol bombs and stones were thrown at us is a great humiliation, since the IDF is not truly in control here, which even according to the Oslo accords should have happened.”
However Dagan reiterated his hope that the new right-wing government would take full control of Yosef’s Tomb and restore the yeshiva which used to be there as well as stopping the persecution of Jews who wish to build in Samaria and restoring Jews to Evyatar and Chomesh.
Dagan mentioned that one of the pilgrims to the tomb was the mother of Ben-Yosef Livnat who was murdered by Palestinian police as he tried to enter the tomb in 2011.
MK Chikli mentioned the aggadic source that “there are three places which the nations cannot say are stolen by us -Temple Mount, The Cave of Machpela and Yosef’s Tomb” as each of these is mentioned in the Tanach as having been bought by Jews.
The MKs all expressed their excitement and emotion at being able to pray at Yosef’s tomb.
