JERUSALEM (VINnews) — An unusual story landed in the Tel Aviv district rabbinical court, with a couple expressing their wish to divorce over a dispute regarding rabbis at the Shabbos table.

The Yisrael Hayom newspaper reported that during the course of the divorce proceedings the woman had also accused her husband of infidelity but one of the main reasons for the disagreement which led to the divorce was an argument over rabbis. The woman used to describe at the Shabbos table how she was inspired by shiurim given by Rabbi Zamir Cohen and Rabbi Yigal Cohen, while the husband angrily replied that he did not wish to hear about those rabbis as they are opposed to his own spiritual leader, Rabbi Amnon Yitzchak.
The couple, who married about two years ago and had twins a year ago, had submitted mutual complaints to the police and had also requested restraining orders against one another. The two opened divorce proceedings with the woman demanding her Kesubah, valued at 52,000 NIS ($15,000).
After hearing both sides, the Beis Din, headed by Rabbi Zvi Ben-Yaakov, Rav Moshe Batzri and Rav Ben Tziyon Rabin, ordered the husband to pay the Kesubah, stating that there was no reason to absolve him from this obligation. ‘We feel that after two years of marriage and in light of the fact that the woman is bringing up twins, it would not be just or correct that she should end up with nothing. We therefore order the husband to pay his wife her Kesubah – the sum of which is 52,000 NIS,” the Beis Din concluded.
Infidelity wasn’t the deal breaker…..?
I’m sure they had plenty of arguments before this one came up!
I’m gonna stick to no comment.
Right. A petty argument at the Shabbos table is THE reason for the divorce. Are we that gullible?
Idiots. Morons. I can’t believe some people are like that.
Why is this even a story⁉️
Seems like this is just for the sake of sensationalism ❕❕,,
If there was a journalistic award for presenting a simple story in a most contorted slanted disinformational style, this one would win. Read the entire print to see for yourself, not just the title or skimming.
stupid people , what does this have to do with Yiddishkeit.
Always sad to hear another religious couple getting divorced. A rabbi once told me that when this happens, the mizbaach (altar) sheds a tear.
Does anyone know of the source?
First commandment before the 613: BE NORMAL
What do the Rabbonim, whose names were involved her, say about this? Are they willing to have someone with allegiance to them to divorce over their honor? Last time I looked, Hashem told us to erase his name to preserve marital harmony.
I wonder who the alleged other woman’s spiritual leader is.
the point of these articles is to show how foolish the news is. Never believe a news article, that’s my motto
What kind of Rabbonim are these ?
Breaking up a young family because of a stupid infantile argument calls into question their שיקול הדעת
A young mother with infant twins !!!
What were they thinking?!?
Arguments over the shabbos table? There would be many divorces as that is a way to break it up. Funny article
It’s like fighting who is better? Aron or Zalmen? My opinion, neither! Husband and Wife should kiss and make up and keep rabaonim out of this.
do what you want and blame it on the rabbi – someone needs a few good petch
To all the commenters, unfortunately this sounds like a pretty standard Beis Din.
Everything is about exact letter of law, and their is no 5th chelek of the shulchan aruch involved.
No seichel involved here.
the guy literally cheated on his wife, not sure he cares for “his” rabbis versus “hers”. unless he belives in polygamy which Sefardim are allowed due to not being subject to cherem Rabbeinu Gerhsom
Are you telling me that in all of Israel they couldn’t come up with another Rabbi who is mutually agreeable to both parties to look up to & be their mutual spiritual guiding force.
She should give the kids to a childless couple.
Give the kids a new solid wholesome frum life with a solid family
They need counseling before marrying again
Shocking, indeed!….but…..$15,000
And yet, all these so-called shidduch crisis experts want little immature 18 year old to get married immediately. As long as it helps the “numbers”, who cares if the marriage lasts.
The infidelity was probably the result of the fighting and not getting along. That’s why it was more of a BTW thing.
The woman is obviously serious about Yiddishkeit, while her “X” not. Rabbi Zmir Cohen is an outstanding Talmid Chochum. He literally speaks with ruach hakodesh. For anyone to object to their wive’s interest in hearing his shiurim, they are essentially rejecting main stream Judaism… that’s really bad. Being an apikoris is more serious a problem than a man having extra-marital affairs. Therefore it’s understandable that she describes that problem as more severe. Actually though, for someone to object of his wife’s listenting to Rav Zmir’s shiurim, I would say he suspect of violating issurei nidah in his extramarital affairs.
These people are probably crazy Sephardic baalei teshuva. Like the Yaron Reuven or the other BeEzrat Hashem Inc. weirdos…
