NEW YORK (VINnews) — Chasidic Jewish social activist Moshe Morgereten, who heads the Tzedek organization, met Wednesday with Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky in Kiev. Morgereten had been invited to visit the president by his father, Oleksandr Zelensky, who was inspired and moved by the work of Tzedek in Ukraine in helping refugees and sending tens of ambulances to the country, which has been under Russian attack since last February.

Oleksander told his son that he must meet “the rabbi from Monsey.” During the meeting Morgereten relayed well wishes to the Ukrainian president from a number of senators who said that they would continue to offer assistance to the country. He then gave Zelensky a silver Mezuzah engraved with his name. Zelensky thanked him for the present and said that he was sure it would protect him.

Rabbi Morgereten met with the president together with Rabbi Liron Edri, rabbi of Krivoi Rodz, the town where Zelensky’s parents lived prior to the war. The two were not able to take telephones into the meeting and were taken through three security systems and via a dark route to the president’s personal office. Zelensky’s bodyguards photographed the meeting but did not yet release footage.
The president was very excited to meet Morgereten and said that he planned to visit the US in the future. Morgereten invited him to New Square and told him that members of the community had donated a million dollars to the Jews of Ukraine. Zelensky said that he woud be happy to meet the Skver Rebbe and added that he knew that Skver had once been a dynamic Jewish center.
Morgereten’s organization has sent tens of ambulances to Ukraine which have been involved in many rescue operations in the wartorn country. The ambulances were donated after a special campaign among Skver chasidim to support Jewish refugees in Ukraine.
Sure, sure, Square donated a million dollars to Ukraine – Also ambulances. Give me a break please – 84% of Square takes gov’t programs (as per data) but they are very generous using the proceeds to help Ukraine. Beleive that and I have a nice bridge to sell you in Brooklyn, it is at least closer then Ukraine.
yes he met a Ukrainian in a uniform. he did hold a Mezuzah somewhere in Ukraine. there no disputing that.
regarding meeting president Zelenksy…… not so much.
if he met Zelensky he would have a picture, if he had a picture he would surely make sure its plastered everywhere. so if there is not picture then….. well you decide.
something about this group is fishy, why are they advocating for no bail laws that all other frum oppose?
Wow! That’s amazing! Thumbs up for the Skvere Chasidim! They are well-known with their Tzedokos! What a Kidush Hashem!
It’s weird that there’s so many self haters here.
If you’re jealous then do the work Rabbi Morgereten does and you’ll end up meeting those you know he met, as well as others you probably don’t know.
He has done so much for Klal Yisroel, that we should all be thanking him and be happy for the work he achieves rather than not doing anything only trying to bash him and others that do good.
Zelensky’s kids are goyim. His wife is a goy. Of what purpose is there to give the dictator a mezuzah?!
