Terrorist Who Perpetrated Double Bombing In Jerusalem Apprehended By Shin Bet

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — More than a month after the November double bombing in Jerusalem which claimed the lives of two people, Israeli police announced that they succeeded in capturing the terrorist who had prepared and placed the bombs.

In a video clip of the scene of the first bombing near the Central Bus Station, the terrorist can be seen riding up to the spot exactly an hour before the explosion and placing a bomb in the bushes under the bus stop. The ensuing explosion killed 15-year-old Aryeh Schupah and 53-year-old Tadesa Taschuma. A second explosion occurred half an hour later near the Ramot junction, but there were no further casualties.

The terrorist, Islam Faroukh, was arraigned in court and a prosecuting declaration was issued. An indictment will be issued in the coming days against him.

Shin Bet and police investigators sought evidence and clues of the terrorist’s identity. A few days after the bombings the detectives located some suspicious items in the northern Judean desert, including the motorcycle used by the terrorist. A day latere, the terrorist’s clothes and helmet were found and in another location, five other explosive devices were found in a hole dug by the terrorist.

After locating the motorcycle’s Jewish owner, investigators traced the stolen numberplate to a store in Kafr Akeb north of Jerusalem, where the terrorist lived. This enabled the investigators to locate the terrorist, who had an Israeli ID card. The investigators arrested him at his workplace, a machine engineering factory in Mishor Adumim, where he had gone back to work after the attack.

The terrorist allegedly learned online how to prepare explosives and used 8 kilograms of explosive materials, building himself a small lab in the ground to test the explosive materials. The terrorist prepared a silencer gun and changed the numberplates on the motorbike.

Staking out the sites of the attacks, the terrorist saw when they were busiest and prepared the explosives with the help of a cellphone. He also prepared another explosive to explode when rescue workers arrived to treat the injured but thankfully the second explosive did not detonate.

The terrorist, who was born in Ramallah but gained citizenship through his East Jerusalem mother, did not express any remorse over his actions. Investigators found that he believes in the Salfist-Jihadist ideology of ISIS and acted alone in order to harm Israeli citizens. Police found in his possession a Karlo submachine gun as well as other explosive materials.

One other explosive device was ready to be activated and Faroukh intended to perpetrate further attacks with it.

Other terror suspects were arrested but found to be unconnected to the bombings. However one suspect was found to be independently planning a terror attack near the Central Bus Station and has been remanded in custody.
