NEW YORK (VINnews) — 27 people have died in the snow blizzard which hit the city of Buffalo, NY, and the surrounding region of Erie county this week. This figure, which is unfortunately expected to rise, represents a large proportion of the national death toll. The city has been covered in four feet of snow and driving bans are in place as Buffalo was described by Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz as “impassable in most areas,” with abandoned vehicles scattered everywhere.

Poloncarz reported that 14 people in the county had died of exposure, three people were found in their vehicles, four had no heat, three were from “shoveling/(snow) blowing cardiac events, and three people passed away after EMS services were delayed.

Despite this, a Chabad youth from Buffalo who wished to go to the Mikve and pray in shul was undeterred by the frigid temperatures outside and walked a mile in the deep snow to the  Mikve. 20-year-old Moishi Labkowski, son of local Chabad emissaries Leizer and Chani Labkowski of the Chabad center for Jewish Life braved the elements and went to the mikve. His brother captured him on drone walking through the snow.

COLlive reported that Moishi and his brothers walked to the shul and mikve during the storm on Shabbos as well.

The devotion of Chasidim to mitzvos is amazing. We are all inspired by this holy person.

Very inspirational. However I’m not sure he was required to risk his life to go the mikvah…..

I had a feeling when I saw the headline for this report that it wasn’t about a Bobover Hasid, Satmar Hasid, Belzer Hasid, Stoliner Hasid, or Gerrer Hasid. For some reason I had a hunch that it was about a Lubavitcher.

Anyone know why?

I remember walking in a snow storm to a Mikva one Shabbos. There was a Mikva on my block, but it was hot and a hot Mikva on Shabbos is a no-no. But of course, it was Shabbos and there were no drones. I didn’t think of making an esek out of it.
Pity.

despite the mound of snow in the foreground, it’s obvious that people walking on the street aren’t even ankle-deep in snow. but that still doesn’t mean that it’s a good idea to ignore public officials and do stupid things, in the name of “emunah”.

What’s so remarkable. Walking through snow is a way of life in many areas. I lived in the snowbelt years ago and we walked to shul in the deep snow many Shabbosim. What normally took 45 minutes took over an hour.
What made this Buffalo area storm so horrific and deadly was the loss of electricity for some homes and that people drove when advised not to and died snowed in sitting in their cars.

Chabad Lubavitch has a long history of doing such things. For example, they stay in the Sukkah when it is pouring rain, despite the gemara speaking clearly and strongly against it.

They say he went to minyan as well. Since when have Lubavitchers been makpid on minyan? Does the Rebbe daven.in a minyan even once daily?

Why did he walk a mile? He could have immersed himself in a snowbank where he was.

A tzaddik im peltz. I guess he never got to the mitzvah of “ushmorecha es nafsosecha.” He could have gotten himself killed. Better yet, he could have found the entrance to the mikveh inaccessible. What a crazy chenyuk!

It always seems to be Chasidim who give the best lessons on what a “Chasid Shoteh” is.

Yeah, he walked through some snow, and then went into a warm mikveh. Let’s see him go to the river and cut through the ice to immerse, as was done in the old country, in the alte heim.

1) The snow he is going through during the video is not so high.

2) When I was a kid I did things like that too.

3) The main thing here is to make a Kiddush Lubavitch, more PR for the Rebbeh.

In the zechus of this kid walking through some snow, the Rebbeh should arise from his tomb in the cemetery in Queens and reveal himself right now!
