WATCH: Oregon Woman Pushes Child Onto Train Tracks

NEW YORK (VINnews) — A woman pushed a 3-year-old child onto the train tracks while she was waiting for a train in Portland, Oregon. Bystanders immediately picked the child up and she suffered light facial injuries and a severe headache.

Footage of the horrific incident shows the child standing on the Gateway Transit Center MAX platform with her mother as they waited for a train, according to Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.

The surveillance camera footage shows a woman – later identified as Brianna Lace Workman, a homeless woman with a criminal history – sitting on a bench behind the mother and child as several other passengers also stood on the station platform. Suddenly, the suspect is seen leaping to her feet and shoving the little child onto the tracks.

The three-year-old landed face-first on the metal rail and rocks before being quickly rescued from the train tracks.

Authorities later said that Mrs. Workman had carried out the attack “without provocation”.

The Multnomah County District Attorney’s office has filed charges, including an offense for which Oregon law permits pretrial detention, and is requesting that Workman remain in custody and be held without bail.

Workman was charged with attempted assault in the first degree, assault in the third degree, interfering with public transportation, disorderly conduct in the second degree and recklessly endangering another person.

According to local news outlet KGW, Workman has several felony convictions. The last one was in 2013 for heroin possession and the more recent convictions were on misdemeanor charges.

The outlet noted that in June 2021, Workman was arrested by Portland police “after a man living downtown said he’d invited her into his room to have breakfast and she slashed him with a knife.”

According to the probable cause affidavit, Workman claimed she had “had a mental breakdown” and “blacked out.”
