WASHINGTON (Yaakov M / VINnews) — In a scathing statement, Senator Ted Cruz blasted the Biden administration’s “pathological obsession with undermining Israel”.

The statement came after top Biden officials condemned National Security Minister MK Itamar Ben-Gvir’s visit to the Har HaBayis this week.
“This visit has the potential to exacerbate tensions and to provoke violence,” State Department spokesperson Ned Price said in a briefing Tuesday. “We’re deeply concerned by any unilateral actions that have the potential to do that … we’re deeply concerned by this visit.”
In addition, US Ambassador to Israel Thomas Nides strongly condemned the Israeli government Tuesday.
Speaking with Axios reporter Barak Ravid shortly after Ben-Gvir’s visit, Nides protested any perceived changes to the status quo on the Temple Mount.
“To be very clear – we want to preserve status quo and actions that prevent that are unacceptable. We have been very clear in our conversations with the Israeli government on this issue.”

I used to be a fan of Senator Cruz. However, since Cruz did not condemn Trump or even criticize him for meeting with anti-Semites, I am no longer his fan.

I am a Chareidi rov. I don’t disagree with the majority of poskim that prohibit ascending to Har Habayis because we are not sure where the “Chil” boundary wall was located. However, I laud Ben Gvir’s action and I would have given him a heter for this one action. It was not a provocation; it was an important and necessary political statement. It didn’t violate the status quo agreement with Jordan, since Ben Gvir merely visited and did not doven there.
Here is my reasoning: The Palestinians are actually the true and only obstacle to peace. They do not want a 2 state solution at all; they still want to, and believe they can eventually eliminate the Jewish State altogether. Every move the Jews do to entrench themselves and show fearlessness will nibble away at the Palestinian resolve. That’s why they Israelis should build and build in the West Bank. My reasoning is similar to the case of a gambler who keeps losing his money or a person who buys stocks and watches them go down in price. In the beginning, he is hopeful it is only a temporary decline or loss and may even throw more money in. But at a certain point, perhaps when he is down 75%, he begins to realize, “if I don’t throw in the towel NOW, I will wind up with nothing.” Eventually, maybe a new generation of Palestinians will wake up and say to their elders, “Your stupid policies have caused us great harm. Israel is here to stay, and in fact it is very beneficial to us. We also want to reap all the blessings and wealth Israel has brought to the world and we want unconditional peace and a modicum of independence in the little amount of land we have left.
