However, the US embassy in Turkey warned Americans today of possible attacks against synagogues, churches and diplomatic missions in Istanbul.  This is the second such notice in four days.  It was issued in the aftermath of a number of Koran burnings in Europe.

The US embassy said “possible imminent retaliatory attacks by terrorists” could take place in areas frequented by Westerners, especially the city’s Beyoglu, Galata, Taksim, and Istiklal neighborhoods.

The airport, however, will probably be safe due to the security apparatus set there.

It should be noted that there are two sections to the airport hotels, that within the heightened security perimeter and that just outside it.

The burning incidents happened in Sweden, Netherlands and Denmark.

A number of diplomatic missions in Turkey issued warnings on Friday.  In a possible tit for tat, on Shabbos morning, Turkey warned its citizens against “possible Islamophobic, xenophobic and racist attacks” in the United States and Europe.

They burn Korans in Holland and Scandinavia? What a welcome change! Heretofore, decent citizens over there were completely intimidated by moslem refuse. Turnabout is fair play, I suppose.
