Earlier this week, a truck with a large billboard sat in the parking lot of Gourmet Glatt urging Orthodox Jews to get vaccinated before traveling to Israel.

The sign said: “Polio is spreading in Israel. Get immunized now.”

The health department said the reason for the billboard was four recent diagnoses of polio cases in Israel, including a paralyzed child.

GOP Assemblyman Ari Brown called the messaging “subtle bigotry.”

“I will fight antisemitism and will not be silent whether it’s from a government official, media, academic institution, or whomever. I would appreciate an expeditious response,” he wrote a letter to Associate Health Commissioner Sam Miller.

Miller responded in a sincere and apologetic tone.

“He couldn’t have been nicer and apologetic,” Brown told a local news outlet. “He knew there was a mistake. He was kind. Right away, he pulled it back.”

“You heard in his voice, sincerity,” the assemblyman added. “He was a gentleman.”

Brown pointed out that a similar issue happened when the Jewish community was subtly blamed for Covid. .

“Governor Cuomo did the exact same thing with COVID. He created these red zones and if you looked at the red zones, they were only around the Jewish areas,” he said. “So, there’s an extra heightened sensitivity here.”

Make sense you go where there is a problem

This is not anti-semitic just targeted to the people that are less likely to be vaccinated.

The contract was replaced with one to ride around Harlem, Jersey City and Newark with side signs now saying ” stay safe together, say no to guns, weapons and crime”. No, you say? Then, it’s troubling why this would never happen, but no problem making a run at the Jews.

We’re so quick to scream Antisemitism but so slow to deal with the root causes.

For monkeypox, there was targeted advertising, hamaivin yavin. It was also criticized and withdrawn–but the targeted population got the message- and it worked.Same thing here. They knew it would be criticized, but they at least thought it might actually work

Those of us who are old enough to remember life during the1950’s, polio was a real scourge. A parents’ worst nightmare for their children. Educate yourself and do the right thing.

it seems whoever advises Hochul on Jewish matters needs to visit the 5 towns and not just focus on Kiryas Joel for votes
