Shas, UTJ Threaten: Budget Will Not Pass Without Passing Of New Draft Law

42

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The haredi parties are planning to stand firm on legislation of the draft law, as agreed during coalition talks in December. Currently Prime Minister Netanyahu, faced with fierce opposition to judicial reforms, does not want to promote the new draft law as this will just generate further opposition and give fuel to protesters, who have been targeting chareidim in recent weeks.

Netanyahu told the heads of the chareidi factions that he intends to delay the new draft law, slated to include a basis law protecting the rights of those studying Torah and allowance to join the workforce at a younger age, for these reasons. On Saturday night, anti-reform protesters announced the coming Thursday as “Equality Day” on which they intend to initiate nationwide protests against the lack of equality in IDF conscription.

“The days in which one side serves the country and funds the yeshivos- as they try to establish a halachic dictatorship- are over,” organizers announced, stating that “we will make protests around the country and tell the chareidi leadership that it’s over.”

Netanyahu said that he will try and persuade the High Court to extend its alloted time for legislating a new draft law, allowing the government some time to pass the budget and perform other critical tasks.
However the chareidi parties have not yet responded to Netanyahu and are fuming at his violating a major element of the coalition agreement, tying the budget to legislation of the draft law.
A chareidi senior official said that “we knew that the matter of draft deferment would serve those leading the protests against the reforms as they would try to rouse the masses against the chareidim. Netanyahu is apparently afraid of the protests and we are trying to accomodate him but this is not always possible.”

75% of charedi women WORK. Only 50% charedi men WORK and 2/3 of them in part time JOBS. Only 12% serve in IDF. And 85% of total Israeli workforce WORKS and supports charedi. And charedi are making the demands? Someday the “gedolim” will make the decision to all return to the paradise we had in golus Europa. Or maybe to Syria or Iran

And Peleg will riot in the streets as this bill will lower the maximum age people will have to stay in Yeshiva to avoid the draft. Peleg wants the age that they have to stay in yeshiva to be as long as possible, not allowing the Yeshiva students to go to work to support their families.
Riots here we come!

How can we convince the nonfrum that not only are the Bnei Yeshiva providing most of the security protection to Israel but are also keeping the world in existence?

This issue has been debated for generations. No solution that will please every side. I think Ben Gurion offered National Service to CHareidi females (there weren’t that many chareidim to begin with back then) and it was rejected but it was discussed respectfully.

I never understood the other side. You know charedim large scale will never join the army . It’s just not happening. Why stand on principal?
