The incident took place just after 9 AM on May 6th in front of Bais Yosef D’Ulem, known locally as Rabbi Friedman’s shul. According to police, an unknown individual threw a small rock at a 23 year old man entering the synagogue at 139-19 72nd Road, hitting him in the leg. The driver of the van fled the scene, continuing southwest on 72nd Road towards 139th Street.

The victim refused medical attention at the scene and was not seriously injured.

Surveillance footage captured images of the graffitied white Sprinter van that was used in the incident, which is being investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force.
