JERUSALEM (VINnews) — One of the three senior commanders of the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization eliminated by the IDF in the Gaza Strip Tuesday morning was Jihad Ghannam, who was responsible for one of the most heinous and brutal terrorist attacks in recent Israeli history.

On the afternoon of May 2nd, 2004, while the Sharon government was drafting plans to evacuate all Jewish towns in the Gaza Strip, the terrorists opened fire on a car near Kfar Darom, murdering Tali Hatuel, who was eight months pregnant, and her four daughters: Hila, Hadar, Roni, and Merav. After initially firing at the car, the terrorists drew closer in order to shoot the victims from point-blank range and confirm their deaths. Even Amnesty international, not known for sympathizing with Israel, deemed the terrorist attack a “crime against humanity”.
David Hatuel, whose entire family was wiped out in the attack, said that Ghannam’s elimination sent “a clear message to the murderers that Israel will always reach those who harm us. As long as they harm us, they will not have a safe place on earth.”
“I thank God and the security forces on behalf of myself and the entire family for the killing of the person who was responsible for planning the murderous attack on my wife Tali and our four daughters, Hila, Hadar, Roni, and Merav, exactly 19 years ago,” Hatuel added. “We act from eternal values and not from revenge.”
Hatuel was one of the leaders of the anti-disengagement movement in 2004-2005. A school principal in Ashkelon, he relocated to the Lachish region after the disengagement, remarried and is now the father of six children. He also established an association in memory of his wife and children, Tali Beyad Ramah, which helps families challenged with fertility issues.

I remember 25 years ago as a kid reading the local Jewish newspapers about suicide bombings and the subsequent retaliation, and the “peace talks” every few years. Meanwhile the same violence keeps happening, and I don’t see how it can ever be resolved. So sad.
