LAKEWOOD (VINnews) — A food establishment received a letter from a former “regular” patron, along with hundreds of dollars in cash, apparently owed to the store, after years of dining without paying.

The letter, which has been spread on social media, was addressed to David Mizrahi, owner of “Eat-a-Pita” in Lakewood, who is described by the letter-writer as a “wonderful person”.

The anonymous letter describes how the customer repeatedly succumbed to his yetzer hara, exiting the store without paying for his food because he “did not have the means.”

He says that he kept track of the amounts that were owed, which eventually “got out of hand and accumulated into a large sum.”

The customer asks for forgiveness for the multiple thefts, as well as forgiveness if he miscalculated and owes more than he paid.

Although there is no specification of the amount owed, the picture shared on social media shows a pile of cash which appears to be multiple hundred-dollar bills.

I’m sure this man/woman was failed by society some way or another that landed them in the position they were in. BH it seems they are now on their feet. May you have continued Hatzlacha.

Wow. The person who paid it back come even though it may not have been the right amount, deserves a lot of brochos as well. It’s not easy to do what he did and to pay back the person.

I have a gut feeling that the store owner caught on what was going on and let it go. Which may explain why he gave the money to tzedakah/charity (he was already mochel/forgave, so the owner likely felt the money no longer belonged to him).

And this is the way America should treat all white collar criminals. You first have a choice to pay back what you stole and if not we deal with you then

Or how about the time you made a stupid comment on VIN and you liked it so much, you kept on doing it.

One concern is if the actual ownership of the establishment changed during the interim.
