JERUSALEM (VINnews) — In an interview with Britain’s Channel 4, former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert astonished his interviewer when he made the controversial statement that Israel is “going into civil war now.” When pressed by the incredulous interviewer, Olmert corrected himself, stating that Israelis would be acting with “civil disobedience”.

Olmert spoke of the “serious threat” which has “never happened before”, and said that the civil disobedience would have “all the possible ramifications for the stability of the state and the ability of the government to perform.” Olmert added that a large part of the Israel population perceives the government as illegitimate as it “threatens the foundations of Israeli democracy.”
This is not the first recent belligerent statement by the former prime minister. He also called on US president Joe Biden to reconsider his relations with Israel and has called on world leaders to shun Prime Minister Netanyahu due to the judicial reforms being legislated in Israel. In February Olmert spoke of the “next stage” which “will be war- and war is not waged by speeches but rather by hand to hand fighting.”
