Baruch was evacuated to the Asaf Harofeh hospital sedated and respirated after a successful resuscitation, but doctors there declared him dead after a short time.

Baruch, a pupil at the Mesila Talmud Torah, had been taken out of the water unconscious and resuscitated by EMT’s from United Hatzalah and MDA. He is survived by his parents, Rav Chaim Ariel Abadi an immigrant from Argentina, his mother Simcha and his siblings.

Nati Rotter, an MDA medic, described the dramatic attempts to save Baruch: “The boy was lying unconscious at the side of the pool after the lifeguard took him out and attempted resuscitation. We continued the medical efforts including respiration, chest compressions and medicines and when his heart began to beat again we placed him in an emergency vehicle in serious condition.”

Police have yet to release the body of Baruch for burial and are demanding an autopsy despite the family’s objections. Rabbi Asher Landau, the rabbi of the Abu Qabir forensic institute is working to release the child for burial.

Rabbi Abadi said that “Isn’t it enough of a terrible tragedy that we have suffered and now we need to go through further suffering? We plead with police, let us bury our son and not suffer further.”

This is the second tragedy to befall the city of Modiin Illit during the current Bein Hazmanim period. Last week, Rabbi Binyamin Halevi Praga, a 44-year-old local resident and educator, died after dehydrating in a Jordan Valley stream during a trip with his father and children.
