Berel Solomon – a self described ‘Jewish Businessman’ and ‘Jewish Movie Producer’ who is ‘on a mission to give my first $1,000,000 to charity’ – posted an emotional video on Twitter, decrying people who publicly shame or embarrass frum Jews on social media, often while shrouded in anonymity.

Solomon said: “I need to call out something in our community…that is getting worse every single day. It has become socially acceptable in our community to publicly shame and embarrass people on social media and the internet. ..It’s happening rampantly.”

He added, “How gross is it to take a person and blast them all over Whatsapp status, Twitter, Linkedin, and podcasts? People’s families are being destroyed…It is not a Jewish trait.”

Berel continued, “Maybe people think that because they are not seeing the face of the person they are attacking on the internet that it’s not so bad. But publicly attacking another person in Judaism is the equivalent of killing them.”

“Our Sages tell us that you are better off jumping into a burning furnace than to embarrass a person. It used to be only in front of a few people. Today, with the flick of a wrist on social media you can embarrass someone in front of a hundred, a thousand, or tens of thousands of people.”

Berel Solomon is doing his best to stop Lashon HaRa.

May G*D grant him his heart’s desires for success and all good things.

He’s right. Social media is terrible. However, what does ” Jewish influencer” mean?

I thought the rabbinic authorities were our influencers. Who is he?

I agree with his meesage but he needs to give examples what he is referring to. Today if you criticize or state an opinion that goes against a false narrative respectfully, you are immediately demonized or accused of LH.

While I no means are referring to Berel there are times when calling someone out online is important. If that person is an influencer and promotes scams or unsavoury stuff he needs to be called out so people don’t follow him. This is true even if it’s only promoted because of a lack of due diligence

Great message. However, IMHO, the captioning is okay, but the emojis cheapen and degrade the message.

People just as easily forget what they read on Social Media, it is less than yesterday’s news.

My only influencer was R’ Dovid Singer ZT”l or my Rebbe Josh Silbermintz, and my friends R’ Dovid Trenk, Shmuel Kunda, and Heshy Nussbaum.

It should start by telling vin to end this like and dislike system. It’s used to bully others
