IDF Soldier Killed, 35th Since Start Of Ground Offensive, 2 Days After His Cancelled Wedding

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The IDF announced early Thursday morning the name of the 35th soldier killed since the start of the ground war in Gaza. Eliahou Benjamin Elmakayes, 29, of Jerusalem, a soldier of the Combat Engineering Corp’s 8219th Battalion, was killed during fighting in the central Gaza Strip Wednesday.

Elmakayes, a lone soldier from France, was due to get married on Monday but cancelled his wedding due to his being stationed in the Gaza strip in battle.

In a terrorist attack in the Jordan Valley on Wednesday night, an Israeli couple in their 20’s were moderately injured after terrorists opened fire on them near the village of Gittit. The couple managed to reach safety and were treated by medics and transferred to hospital. The terrorists fled the scene.

The IDF also continued its activities in Jenin, destroying an entry road which had suspected explosive devices underneath it. Security forces also eliminated one terrorist on the ground as well as a terror cell in the city which was destroyed from the air. A terrorist was also eliminated during clashes in Hevron Wednesday night.
