Senate Republicans, and a Jewish Socialist, Block Funding Bill for Israel

Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., responds to another Senator's remarks during testimony by former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, Wednesday, March 29, 2023, on Capitol Hill in Washington. Sanders electrified the left with 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns that centered on bold calls for universal, government-funded health care. CAPITOL (VINnews) — Senate Republicans blocked a bill to provide aid to Israel (and Ukraine), due to their own domestic political agenda.

Senators voted 49-51 on Wednesday, failing to reach the 60-vote threshold need to allow the bill to advance to the next stage.

Socialist Jewish Senator Bernie Sanders joined every Republican against the measure. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer flipped his vote to “no” so he could bring the bill up again in the future.

The reason that the GOP opposed the bill was due to lack of border provisions included in the measure.

The $111 billion emergency supplemental package requested by President Biden also included aid for the Indo-Pacific region, as well as funding for humanitarian aid in Gaza, the border and to combat fentanyl trafficking.

Despite their support for most of those items, Republicans have insisted for weeks that they would withhold their votes on the motion to proceed if the bill did not include funding to secure the southern border – which has been a catastrophic nightmare due to the Biden administration’s open border policies.

Both sides are predictably playing politics with the badly needed funding.

Schumer has accused Republicans of “hostage taking” as the path to passing aid to Ukraine and Israel remains unclear.

“Why hold up Ukraine aid if they can’t even present a border package that can pass the Senate?” he said on the floor Wednesday.

“We are asking ourselves this question: Has border been nothing more than an excuse for the hard right to kill funding for Ukraine, and too many other Republican senators who are not part of the hard right are going along?” he said. “I hope that’s not true.”

Senate Republicans meanwhile, have accused Democrats of not taking their concerns to heart when they’ve made their position clear all along.

Such garbage from the news. What are you doing , just plain and simple copying from the Washington Compost ? The bill wasn’t only about Israel. The bill wasn’t bad everything. Joe Biden dumped everything into this bill. It was a garbage can of expenses Oh, and by the way here’s something for Israel. It’s no wonder why the vote went down the way it did. The REAL problem is the Democrats will vote for anything because they don’t care, it’s YOUR money.

Bernie is just one vote. Just like football coach GOP Senator Tommy Tuberville did holding up 1000 military promotions, threatening national security, it wss Republican Senators who refused to vote for Israel due to their internal politics. Feh.

Biden is behind this. The president does need Congressional approval to send arms to Israel. Richard Nixon sent arms to Israel during the Yom Kippur War. Did he have to get Congress to vot on it?

Republicans have been saying for weeks that they will block any bill that doesn’t include tangible policy changes at the border. Shumer feigned shock when the GOP actually followed through. Secondly, this bill is mostly about Ukraine funding, since Israel seems to be doing just fine in its war with Hamas. I’m surprised at the lack of journalistic integrity from Vinnnews in this article.

I cry out we JEWS are in deep trouble. OUR LIVES AND THE LIVES OF OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN ARE IN JEOPARDY. The time machine of history has brought us back to 1933 Germany; 1938 Kristallnacht is approaching if not already here. I have been cautioning this was happening, but most refused to listen. America is no longer the Goldena medina for us. In EUROPE there is nowhere to run where antisemitism has not raised its ugly head. All the prayers and rallies will not help unless we JEWS arm ourselves to the teeth. We need to walk and travel in pairs or groups. Avoid the ivy league schools where there are both professors and students who wish to destroy us. The fact that millionaires are withdrawing their donations means nothing as that money will be replaced by funds from Arab and MUSLIM states which us harm and the destruction of ISRAEL. Most probably face book will not be happy with this message and put me in Facebook jail. Please consider Aliyah, much of my own family is already there. I am old and not in the best of health but I fight for Jewish existence day and night. If I was a young man in good health I would start a JDL world wide. We have a few militants but not enough. In this country and other countries professors are teaching the young that HAMAS are victims and we JEWS are the Nazis. Babies are branded by HAMAS, WOMEN RAPED AND THE WORLD IS BASICALLY SILENT. In Europe and AMERICA AND IN FACT AROUND THE WORLD JEWS are being beaten up or murdered and Judges require very little in way of punishment. Please listen to my warning this time before it is too late. RABBI DR. BERNHARD ROSENBERG, son of Holocaust survivors.

Sorry but the US doesn’t owe Israel this aid. They have a right to want to secure their own priorities.

Democrats support Jew haters and terrorists.

Paul unlike the democrats that are growing more radical left(like you) and continually vote against isreal and anti semitism the republicans voted because of their concerns of open borders bringing in tens of thousands of illegals and yes hundreds of moslem Hamas supporters. But when they come for you it will be too late.

How odd, from all I have read here, I would have thought the Republicans were pro-Israel. Now we see they are willing to support Israel as long as the deal has something in it for them.
