The bus was on its way to Yeshiva Ohr Reuven in Forshay. One parent with children in the yeshiva said that the fire started in the bus’s rear tire and spread, although it is not clear what sparked it.

There were 6 boys on the bus at the time. One seventh-grader’s father who was present smelled smoke and immediately got the boys out. Four other boys were supposed to be on the bus at that time, but missed it for various reasons.

To celebrate the Erev-Chanukah miracle, the Yeshiva Ketana held a Rekida with music playing, and multiple students in the yeshiva participated.

Interestingly, the yeshiva just held a two day $1 million Tzedakah campaign on Tuesday and Wednesday, which was themed “You are the light”. Observers noted the incredible z’chusim that were generated by the yeshiva and its talmidim who worked extremely hard to raise the Tzedaka funds, and it is very likely that the two events are heavily linked.

The Menahel sent the following email to parents about the miraculous incident:

Dear YKOR Parents,

I am sure that by now you have heard about the incredible Neis that took place this morning involving six of our Talmidim. They were on the Minyan bus coming to Yeshiva when a fire broke out, but Chasdei Hashem they were able to get off the bus just before it exploded and engulfed in flames. Thankfully, the boys are B”H doing fine.

Here are the key points from our conversation with the boys and the subsequent actions we took:

  • After Shachris, Rabbi Plotzker so eloquently spoke to the boys about how thankful we are to Hashem for this amazing miracle and that everyone was able to get off the bus safely.
  • We are in contact with the bus company, and they assured us that the bus had recently undergone and passed a comprehensive inspection by the Department of Transportation (DOT). This frightening incident is now under DOT investigation.
  • Next week, our 5th-grade teacher, Mr. Freedman who is also a firefighter, will be presenting to the students about fire safety.
  • Finally, after breakfast, the Talmidim broke out in a dance, singing songs of thanks to Hakodosh Buroch Hu for this great Neis on Erev Chanukah which the Yom Tov of להודות ולהלל.

Should there be any additional information to share, we will update you accordingly.

We are incredibly grateful that our Talmidim are safe, and we will continue to prioritize their well-being.

A freilichen Chanukah

The driver could have extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher before the whole bus was engulfed in flames.
