In Jenin, IDF soldiers from the Netzach Yehuda  (Nahal Haredi) unit lit candles during the intensive operation taking place there over the past days. IDF soldiers discovered tunnels, ammunition, weapons manufacturing factories and terror funds in Jenin and arrested 60 terrorist suspects. 12 terrorists were eliminated from the air after they attacked IDF forces.

In Gaza, Chaim Hersh Meisels, the great-grandson of the Beirach Moshe, lit the seventh candle last night for his unit stationed there.

In Khan Younis in the southern Gaza strip, IDF soldiers fighting in the region were treated to a pyrotechnic Chanukah show as members of the artillery unit sent eight flares up skywards.

And at Jerusalem’s Central Bus Station, a moving ceremony took place in which Chagai Engelman, the son of Israel’s state comptroller Matanyahu Engelman who was seriously injured in the fighting in Gaza a month ago and has Baruch Hashem recovered, lit the Chabad menorah placed on a platform near the station as his father looked proudly on.

I am not Satmar and I definitely do not share their views via-a-vis the IDF. Having said that, I can’t help but suspect that this attention-grabbing headline is not in the best taste.

1. The ego of some, to think that the Govt in Israel cares whether Satmar is still anti Tzioni, is mind boggling. 2. When Zionists were anti-Frum & Zionism was a replacement for Yiddishkeit, it was a problem. But today Zionism (especially as opposed to Secularism) is more of a Baal tshuvah movement, and should be embraced. 3. Why would people speak poorly of Horav Kook??? 4. Just when there’s been such a tremendous Ahavas Yisroel, and “B’lev echud” in Klal Yisroel, why would some in the Eiriv Rav try to take us back to pre October 7th???? 5. Let’s embrace one another & fight our enemies in the world; not each other.

Not every Jew follows their father’s or grandfather’s path. But he is OK being in the IDF.

so is the satmar rebbe’s grandchild learning torah, eating kosher, lighting chanukah candles? is his only ‘sin’ that he is a tziyoni? leave him alone. he may be a disappointment to his zeida, but he is not shaming him. who was it who said many years ago that thr worst part of all of this is that his turned young jewish people into murderers. this is what really hurts.

If the Israeli government had any brains, which clearly they don’t, they would shut their mouth and stop showing him off. It is not doing them any good. Oh it might do good for the leftist Israelis to say look at that, but the leftist israelis don’t count. HKBH counts!

He’s mentioned numerous times, though not sure why, that he feels so overjoyed & connected to Satmar whenever he rides on a Zionist train.
