JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Dr. Yehuda Sabiner is a Gerer Chasid who has succeeded in breaking numerous stereotypes. A medical doctor who is specializing in pediatrics at Schneider hospital, the Technion graduate also served in the IDF and has currently been conscripted for reserve duty since October 7th. Doctor Sabiner is also the proud father of four sweet children, including the youngest who has Down Syndrome. When she was born in 2021, the doctor wrote that “The promise we whispered in her ear in the first hours took on more meaning. We promised that B’Ezrat Hashem we will give her the best life that can be had, with love and joy.”
This week the doctor returned to his family for the first time in four weeks and his delighted youngest daughter wouldn’t part from him. The scene was captured with the backdrop of a song which is fast becoming the anthem of the Swords of Steel campaign:
“Even in the darkest hours of night there’ll always be a small star which will light up for you the way home.
“It’s always darkest before dawn.
“A million trains race to Australia, you search far away for what is under your nose.
“Every obstacle is a medal. You get up and fall, but in your own way.”

Ayelet Shaked (@Ayelet__Shaked) December 26, 2023
Dr. Sabiner’s homecoming was retweeted by former Knesset member Ayelet Shaked who added that “The medical corps are doing rare holy work and saving lives in the field with new methods. Armies around the world will yet come here to learn how this is done.”
As a parent of an almost 11 year old boy with down syndrome I can relate to the challenges that Dr. Sabiner, his wife, and family face on a daily basis. My heart is with them on this challenging yet rewarding journey. This child though, looks adorable and the expression on both their faces says it all. Additionally, looking at his accomplishments speaks to an amazing person who lives his life helping others. What an inspiration! This is a true heartwarming story… Wishing Dr Yehuda Sabiner all the best from so many of us…
Beautiful!!
Sorry to say, the tweet from Ayelet Shaked was a backhanded compliment. Suffice with complimenting the medical officers in the army or suffice with praising Dr Sabiner. But why stress that he is unusual because he is a chareidi? There are many, wonderful and dedicated ,frum medical professional in Israel.
Its correct to say a child with downs syndrome. Not a downs syndrome child.
We have a great-grandchild 5 yrs old. with Downs Syndrome. He is a Brocho! He gives us an extra feeling of simcha. He is someach with everything and he senses who loves him and cares about him. He recognizes when he accomplishes something and feels proud. We all plan to give him and his wonderful parents all the support and love that we can.We thank Hashem for this wonderful little fellow who brightens up our lives.
