IDF Soldiers In Gaza Find Family’s Signboard From Gush Katif 19 Years Later

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — IDF soldiers fighting in Gaza found a remarkable memento from 19 years ago in Gush Katif – a family’s signboard from the village of Netzarim, which was destroyed in the 2005 disengagement. Even more poignant was the fact that Amiel, a member of the family, is currently fighting in Gaza and received the signboard from the soldiers who found it.

The Yarchi family were evacuated during the course of the disengagement. An officer in a commando unit found the family’s signboard and told a friend who had been evacuated from Gush Katif in the hope that he might know the family it belonged to. The friend managed somehow to transfer it to Amiel Yarchi, who said after receiving the souvenir from his past that “I was in shock, it was almost unimaginable.”

Amiel, who is now 27 years old, added that:”I cried from excitement, it was a powerful greeting. All of us have a picture with this signboard. I haven’t seen this signboard for nearly 19 years and it took me a moment to comprehend it. It is a greeting from a home which we really loved.”
