(VINnews) — Elon Musk, Ron DeSantis, and Chaya Raichik have all slammed Squad member Ilhan Omar, after she pledged her allegiance as a US representative…to Somalia. DeSantis called for Omar’s deportation, Raichik her expulsion from Congress, and Musk questioned her loyalty to the United States.

Omar came under fire after a speech she gave in Somali to a crowd in Minneapolis over the weekend which was spread widely on social media. Though there are different versions of the exact translation, all interpretations appear to show that she promised to use her position in Congress to advance the Somalian agenda. She vowed to sway the US to support Somalia in land disputes with Ethiopia.

Raichik’s LibsofTiktok account tweeted: “Ilhan Omar says she has a very special and close relationship with the President of Somalia. She calls him her “uncle” and he calls her his “girl.” She also refers to him as “our president” while the entire audience in Minnesota cheers.”
Musk replied: “Doesn’t sound loyal to the United States.”
Libs replied: “She’s not. She needs to be expelled from congress”
The original translation spread online was posted by an ambassador of Somaliland, a region that broke off from Somalia amid wars and chaos in the region. Omar claimed that translation was edited deceptively to paint her in a negative light. However, the translation endorsed by Omar still shows her vowing to use her position in government to advance the interests of her homeland.
“My response was: the U.S. government will do what we ask it to do,” she was quoted in her preferred translation. “We should have this confidence in ourselves as Somalis. We live in this country. We are taxpayers in this country. This country is one where one of your daughters sits in Congress. While I am in Congress, no one will take Somalia’s sea. The United States will not back others to rob us. So, do not lose sleep over that, O Minnesotans. The lady you sent to Congress is on this, and she is as cognizant of this interest as you are.”
Conservative congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene labeled Omar a “terrorist sympathizer”.
“Terrorist sympathizer Ilhan Omar in her own words: Somalian first. Muslim second. She never mentions America,” Greene said. “She flaunts using her position as congresswoman to protect Somalia’s border while our border is invaded by MILLIONS of illegals who are a danger to America. These people hate America and they’re so emboldened by the Democrats’ disdain for our country, they’re not even trying to hide it anymore.”

How is what Omar said any different than any other congressperson expressing support for any other country? Is the problem that it’s a foreign country (then so is Israel, England, Ireland, etc.) or is about that it’s Somalia?
Considering how easily others can create a false equivalency between her loyalty to Somalia and the strong support the American Jewish community has shown for Israel, and how easily the difference between the two can be distorted in today’s opinion by tik-tok world, I question whether this is the fight we need to wage right now.
Sounds like the dual loyalty slanders often directed towards Jews.
She is awful. She is an anti-Semite and is supporting a failed state. But these unfair slams don’t stick to the direct issue. They only cause people to be more sympathetic towards her.
I find it shocking that some ethic groups display dual loyalties.
