NYPD inspector Richie (Yechiel) Taylor, the highest-ranked yarmulke-wearing officer in the Department, is being promoted to deputy chief.

Taylor, who has an illustrious track record and many achievements, will be the youngest deputy chief in the Department, at age 41.

He will be promoted by Police Commissioner Edward Caban to Deputy Chief on Friday, in a ceremony in Queens.

Reuvain Borchard at Hamodia quoted Taylor as saying “Thank you Hashem!”

“I am deeply appreciative of the faith Commissioner Edward Caban has shown in me. And this could never have been possible without the sacrifices of my family all these years. I look forward to using my new position to further help people across the city.”

Taylor is the commanding officer of the NYPD’s department of community affairs. He has received multiple awards, including honors from the Mayor’s Office and the NYPD. He is also an EMT who has served as a member of Hatzolah. He responded to the World Trade Center on 9/11, arriving before the towers collapsed.

He and his wife Miri reside in Marine Park with their five children.

Taylor grew up in Brooklyn, attending Yeshiva of Manhattan Beach and Touro College. He became a police officer in 2005, graduating the academy with top honors, and was promoted to sergeant in 2010, lieutenant in 2014, captain in 2016, deputy inspector in 2020 and inspector in 2021.

“Our entire community has great reason to be proud of Richie’s promotion,” said Councilman Kalman Yeger. “For the last two decades, I have watched Richie serve our city and the NYPD with great distinction. He is a model cop, respected in the Department and throughout our city’s neighborhoods. His promotion will do great honor to the NYPD.”

This guy is a REAL mentch! Have known him for years, he was a hero during 9/11 and one of the best cops the NYPD has. Always willing to go the extra mile to help citizens and make sure everyone is safe and in the loop with things happening around the city. He is incredibly hard working and is an accomplished Torah scholar. We would be fortunate to all have kids that grow up to be strong in Torah and strong respected citizens dedicated to improving our communities as a whole.
