JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Hamas is investigating whether Marwan Issa, the deputy commander of Hamas’ military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, & right-hand man to Mohammed Deif, who played a significant role in planning the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel, has been killed.

The 59-year-old Issa was hiding in the Nusseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza strip, which was hit by a heavy Israeli air raid on Saturday in an apparent attempt to target him. Several Palestinians were killed in the raid and it is unclear as yet whether Issa was among them. He has not made contact with the Hamas leadership since the attack and is currently considered missing.

If Issa, considered the no. 3 man in the Gaza strip after Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif, was killed, it would be the most senior member of Hamas in the region eliminated since the start of the war. Issa is responsible for coordination between the military wing of the Hamas and its political echelon. He was known to Israel as a cruel and dangerous terrorist who was responsible for planning numerous attacks within Israel, while maintaining a low media profile and not appearing much in public.
