The Home Front Command canceled any Meron events commemorating the birth and Yahrtzeit of Moshe Rabenu, due to the war in northern Israel and the concern for rocket attacks from Hezbollah.

A group of people defied the ban and began singing and dancing in the tomb courtyard. According to reports, an officer stationed at the tomb enforced the ban by discharging a fire extinguisher.

The IDF on Thursday ordered the cancellation of the annual gathering, scheduled for Sunday and Monday, which was expected to attract tens of thousands of participants.

Mount Meron is located just eight kilometers (five miles) from the border with Lebanon and has been targeted repeatedly by Hezbollah rockets in recent months.
