In a scorching personal letter to Schumer, Arad, who holds dual citizenship and was born in Israel, expressed his dismay at Schumer’s perceived betrayal of Israel’s leader during a critical time.
Arad took issue with Schumer’s call for new elections in Israel, stating that he believed Schumer’s statement was not only incorrect but also inappropriate. He emphasized that it was not Schumer’s place to dictate to another democratic country how it should conduct its affairs, especially during a time of conflict.
Furthermore, Arad condemned Schumer for what he perceived as unfair criticism of Israel, particularly in light of the ongoing threats posed by Hamas, an organization that has repeatedly vowed to destroy the State of Israel. He questioned whether Schumer would maintain the same stance if he or his family were directly affected by the violence and terrorism faced by Israelis.
Arad also criticized Schumer for potentially aligning himself with pro-Palestinian supporters within the Democratic Party, suggesting that this may influence his views on Israeli politics.
Schumer’s office declined to comment on Arad’s letter, but noted receiving support from Hollywood figures, many of whom are Jewish. However, actor Mark Ruffalo, known for his portrayal of The Incredible Hulk, praised Schumer for his “moral courage” in taking a stance against Netanyahu’s government.

The only thing dumber than a self-important Hollywood-type releasing a statement about politics and their opinions on world affairs is a politician releasing a statement about how many self-important Hollywood-types agree with his politics and opinions on world affairs.
