CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO — Two Jewish families from Brooklyn, New York, are safe and unharmed after the Gulfstream V executive jet they were traveling on skidded off the runway while landing at Cabo San Lucas International Airport on Thursday afternoon.

The aircraft, a Gulfstream V registered as N1948Z, had departed from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey at 2:21 p.m. and arrived in Cabo at 4:28 p.m. local time. Upon landing on Runway 29, the jet experienced a runway excursion, veering off the paved surface and coming to a halt near the edge of the airfield.

Video of the incident posted on social media shows the aftermath, with emergency vehicles responding and passengers calmly exiting the aircraft. In one clip, a member of one of the Brooklyn families can be heard crying and saying, “Thank you Hakadosh Baruch Hu” — the traditional Hebrew expression of gratitude to Hashem — underscoring the emotional weight of the moment.

“A few seconds of fear, then a Pesach miracle,” said one individual familiar with the families, referring to the Jewish holiday of Passover, which begins this weekend. The families had reportedly traveled to Cabo to celebrate the holiday.

According to initial reports, the aircraft experienced a fault upon landing, which may have caused it to end up off the runway.

The Gulfstream V is a long-range private jet prized for its safety, advanced avionics, and luxurious cabin. With a range of over 12,000 kilometers, it is frequently used by corporate leaders, high-net-worth individuals, and governments.

Cabo San Lucas, located at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula, is a prime destination for holiday travelers, especially during Passover, when many Jewish families seek resort destinations offering kosher accommodations and programming.

Mexican aviation authorities have not yet released a statement regarding the cause of the incident. As of Thursday night, no injuries had been officially reported, and the aircraft’s condition remains under assessment.

The comments so far seem to agree that going to Cabo for Pesach is much less than a חיוב דאורייתא או רבנן. However, in the context of a story about a miracle, pointing that out falls flat, seeming to negate the miracle itself. So let’s say it this way: These families, obviously well monied, clearly had tremendous זכויות in heaven for all the tremendous charity and Chesed they no doubt participate in. Although they may not be cognizant of the עליי׳ one can have from a less גשמיות type of YomTov, their tremendous merit nevertheless saved them from tragedy. We hope they will grow in רוחניות from this ultimately happy incident.

Some of these comments are misguided. An incredible miracle happened here because these families are astronomically charitable and support so much Torah study and learning and build Yeshivas and donate all over the world. Thank G-d for this blessing to remind us of our appreciation to those who give and support and protect others. Thank you Hashem.

It is a magnificent Pesah Trip, great people, with glatt kosher cuisine, Sifrei Torah, Machzorim, Rabbis, Hazanim, that raises millions for a Yeshiva in New York so that others can attend under scholarship. BH everyone was safe.

Hate to break it to the haters here, but our very own gmara describes our own class system at Beis Mikdash times from the Kohein Gadol all the way down. There appears to have been a caste system and one with many more levels than what we see today. Also, a group cannot segregate as a group unless everyone else acknowledges that separation. In your recognition of rich as separate you are the very contributor to its group separation. Best to just live life to fullest and not look around at what others are doing. There is no need to recognize the rich. Just leave them be to do their own thing and don’t pay them any attention. When you pay attention you’re contributing to creating the problem.
