Commenters Question V.P. Vance Over Attack on Jewish Reporter, Silence on Tucker Carlson

WASHINGTON – Social media users are criticizing Vice President J.D. Vance after he publicly lashed out at Sloan Rachmuth, a Jewish investigative journalist, for posts targeting his deputy press secretary, Buckley Carlson, the son of conservative commentator Tucker Carlson. Many commentators have also questioned why Vance has not condemned Tucker Carlson himself.

Rachmuth, who identifies on X (formerly Twitter) as “Defending Judeo-Christian Values,” accused the Carlson family of a pattern of racism and antisemitism. She wrote that “Tucker Carlson’s brother idolizes Nick Fuentes,” the white nationalist, and asked whether Buckley Carlson, Vance’s aide, might also be a “vile bigot.”

Vance responded with a series of posts calling Rachmuth a “scumbag” and defending his staffer, describing her accusations as “complete lies” and emphasizing his loyalty to his team. He wrote, “I have an extraordinary tolerance for disagreements and criticisms … But I am a very loyal person, and I have zero tolerance for scumbags attacking my staff. And yes, everyone who I’ve seen attack Buckley with lies is a scumbag.”

The response, however, has drawn criticism from some observers on social media, who note that Vance has defended Buckley Carlson while remaining silent about Tucker Carlson’s widely criticized interview with Fuentes, which many see as normalizing extremist views. One X commenter wrote, “Your silence about the No. 1 catalyst of antisemitism — Tucker Carlson — is deafening.”

Political analysts point out that Vance’s strong defense of his aide, coupled with his refusal to distance himself from Tucker Carlson’s controversial rhetoric, highlights the broader tension within the conservative movement over engagement with extremist figures and ideas.

Former Congressman Jim Banks, Carlson’s previous employer, also defended Buckley Carlson on social media, describing him as “one of the smartest, most trustworthy and loyal staffers I’ve ever had,” and called attacks on him “disgusting.”

The debate reflects ongoing scrutiny of how conservative leaders navigate associations with controversial media figures while responding to concerns about antisemitism and extremism within their ranks.

Adding to the controversy, President Donald Trump also declined to criticize Carlson on Sunday when asked by the media. Trump said Carlson “has the right to interview anyone he wants” and described him as “a good person,” signaling continued support for the commentator despite the backlash.

JD Vance has always been awful. That’s why he was chosen as VP: to protect Trump’s life.

Vance is becoming toxic. This is not going to go away. Trump should ask him to resign and let Rubio replace him. Rubio will need Congressional approval though.

Vance doesn’t have what it takes to be president in my opinion.

The way he is now would cause untold harm to peace in Israel and by extension the world.

Vance is just young and inexperienced. I don’t believe he has the ability to see the bigger picture and understand his or the US role globally.

He’s like a little child that’s told ‘America First’ , but doesn’t seem to know where and how to correctly apply it.

Regardless. It’s not smart to pick a fight with JD Vance about this. True, currently, he’s not been overly warm to our cause. But I could tell you for sure, Tucker Carlson and the alt-right are hoping we attack JD, because that is sure to alienate him big time.

So far, I have not seen *anyone* become more friendly to Jews after being called an antisemite.

If they don’t pick the right side, they should not expect the orthodox vote that came in for Trump in record numbers, it wont be there.

This story must be missing the back-story here. I don’t understand why this journalist would claim that the aide said anything remotely antii-Jewish when the story seems to be about his father. Huh? Why blame the son, and then blame his employer when his employer rightly defends the son?

None of this matters because Vance has zero chance of becoming President in 2028. Rubio less than that. Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.
