NEW YORK — An NYPD detective is being praised as a hero after dramatic roadside video showed him saving a choking baby on the Bronx River Parkway during rush-hour traffic, according to the New York Post, which identified the officer as Detective First Grade Michael Greaney.

Greaney, who works in the office of Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, was driving to work around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday when he saw a black BMW speeding along the shoulder of the southbound lanes, police said. He activated the lights on his unmarked vehicle and pulled over to investigate.
Inside, he found a frantic father shouting that his baby was choking. Video posted to TikTok shows Greaney lifting the infant — wearing a pink onesie — and delivering back blows on the side of the road.
Police said the child’s airway cleared moments later and she began breathing again. A passing pediatrician stopped to assess the baby and confirmed she was stable.
The father later notified police that his daughter was doing well.
