RHODE ISLAND – An Orthodox Jewish Brown University senior said he spent the night helping move students to safety following a mass shooting, describing hours of fear and exhaustion as the campus responded to the violence.

Ben Marcus said he had been awake all night shuttling students back and forth to their dorms. He said one of his close friends was killed in the attack.
“We were celebrating Shabbat,” Marcus said. “All of a sudden, it wasn’t over yet. The security guard leaped into action and said, ‘Everyone, upstairs.’”
Marcus described the ordeal as “a long night,” as students and staff grappled with the aftermath while authorities continued their investigation.
