Ahmed El Ahmed, who was seriously wounded after disarming one of the attackers despite being unarmed himself, remains hospitalized recovering from multiple gunshot wounds. His actions during the attack drew international attention and praise.
The organizers of an online fundraising campaign visited Ahmed in his hospital room this week to deliver the news, presenting him with a ceremonial cheque reflecting the total donations.

Visibly emotional, Ahmed expressed gratitude to those who contributed, urging people to stand together and focus on saving lives rather than dwelling on past divisions.
He said his decision to intervene came instinctively after seeing families and children enjoying a peaceful day that was suddenly shattered by violence. Speaking from his hospital bed, Ahmed described Australia as a country worth protecting and called for unity in the face of hatred and terror.
Authorities have previously credited Ahmed’s actions with preventing further loss of life.
