A military statement Sunday said F-16 jets were scrambled, and sent to the border after the helicopters flew in the area on at least three occasions.
The military did not report that any direct confrontation had taken place.
The jets were scrambled days after Turkey said it would treat any Syrian military unit approaching its border as a direct threat in response to the downing of a Turkish reconnaissance plane by Syrian forces on June 22.
Turkey has also reinforced its border with anti-aircraft guns and other weapons.
The military said the helicopters flew as close as 4 miles (6.5 kilometers) to the Turkish border.
If one thinks that a full fledged confrontation between Turkey and Damascus may benefit the Jewish state, think again!
The Jew will always be blamed. Think of how some have predicted when the news of Egypt’s unrest came, they saw it as a major advantage for Israel, now what? We have the Brotherhood in power.
As is commonly known WW1 was started by a small spark when two Serbians assassinated the Arch Duke of the Austro-Hungarian empire. This war led to the death of millions. It seems that Turkish-Syrian tensions are at the flash-point and any small spark could trigger a larger war. Isn’t it strange how Turkey who was unjustified to threaten Israel just a few months ago over the Gaza floatila incident is now confronted with a real threat at its border. In addition, Turkey tried to aid enemies of Hashem and the Jews by sending supplies to Gaza which was not any of their business. Now Turkey has a Syrian refugee problem and has to feed and supply over 34,000 refugees which costs big money. They went from trying to feed enemies of Israel which was not their business to having to feed many more thousands of Syrian refugees. It is as if Hashem is saying to Turkey you want to be kind to My enemies and feed and supply them then I will send you even more people to feed and supply right at your very border. It seems that Hashem has turned the tables on Turkey in retribution for their evil deeds.
I’m not a big fan of theological speculation for events happening this week.
Hindsight is always tricky, even decades later.
Interestingly, some rabbis avoid speaking about any current events, or even anything in Jewish history — and some avoid even contemporary topics like shalom bayis, child safety, etc.
I personally think some discussion of recent events behooves a rav.
