Jerusalem – Emergency workers pronounced the death Thursday of a yeshiva student who drowned after entering the waters to swim in the Beit Zayit Reservoir near Beit Shemesh.

Following attempts by rescue divers and firefighters to locate the young man in his 20s in the swampy waters, he was extracted unconscious from the reservoir and pronounced dead on the scene.
The student was identified as Shalom Mari From Yeshiva Lev Eliyahu in Ramat Shlomo.
The body was located by a diver at about 8 p.m.
The youth’s friends said he had entered the water, failed to come out and drowned in the mud.

Can someone explain to me how people get drowned in lakes if they know how to swim? Is it that they get their feet stuck in mud below and can’t get it out to come up , or what else?
