Sergeant Michael Young of the Lakewood Police Department said that the accident took place at 6:18 last night at Finchley Boulevard just south of the Leisure Chateau Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Young declined to identify both the 29 year old driver of the Nissan Sentra and the 65 year old victim who was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey.
Young said that at the moment drugs, speed or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the accident which remains under investigation by the Lakewood Police Department’s Traffic Safety Division.
People tend to cross streets in Lakewood in the dark, wearing dark clothing, making it very hard for drivers to see them. Perhaps this is why this unfortunate accident happened. People should wear reflectors at night.
