Jason Cannaday, 28, agreed to meet the seller at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pennsylvania Avenue and Linden Boulevard, sources said.
When the salesman arrived, he received a call from Cannaday, who changed the meeting place to nearby Hegeman and Georgia avenues, the sources said.
When he arrived at the new corner, Cannaday pulled a gun, cops said.
“Give the phones or you’re going to get shot,” he allegedly threatened.
Cannaday was arrested nearby after tossing a gun under a car as police closed in on him, the sources said.
Cops found the stolen phones and a 9mm pistol loaded with eight hollow-point “cop-killer” bullets.
Cannaday was charged with robbery, menacing and weapon possession, authorities said.
A lot of issues here: 1. Craigslist is an extremely dangerous way to conduct business, especially meeting a stranger on the street like that. Craigslist is the preferred link up to prostitution services. 2. “Cop Killer” bullets- this is nonsence and hype, as all 9mm bullets are lethal if they reach and disrupt vital bodily organs and functions, so I guess they are implying that these bullets were “armor piercing”,which hollow-points are Not. 3. why can criminals acquire guns and ammo completely unimpeded in NYC, while law abiding citizens can not?
Doing business on Craigslist is perfectly sensible. Meeting a stranger on a street corner in East New York, with valuables in hand, is not.
You are right, there is no such thing as a “cop-killer bullet”. It’s a made-up term used to demonise ordinary ammunition so it can be banned.
just from that address, he should have been worried
i know one thing, i make loads of cash via craigs list and i never had an issue with anyone, but u gotta be cautios i would never meet w/someone like that by a corner on the street.
again, u gotta be careful, but i dont think there is better site than c.l. its the best site to turn to for “any thing u r looking for”, there r millions of people searching craigs list every day, and its the easiest way and the cheapest way to reach out to millions.
good luck!!
i think sellers should always agree to meet buyers outside the local police station. This way transactions can be done safer.
I’ve sold many things on craigslist, I tend to meet the person either in a starbucks (lots of people around) or a bank (even if not lots of people, lots of cameras).
never had an issue, and I’ve sold things that were $1000+ (laptops)
