Bloomberg posed the idea in a group of proposals aimed toward making the city better for aging citizens.
He also says he wants to provide free bus service for seniors to get to grocery stores. The city is already testing this with a pilot program in Brooklyn, with unused school buses.
The leading Democratic mayoral challenger says Bloomberg has neglected seniors. William Thompson Jr. points out that the mayor proposed millions of dollars in budget cuts to senior services last year and wanted to close dozens of senior centers.
what about for people that cant afford taxis or bus service and are not senior citizens????
When i was that age I used to walk to school
how are elderly ppl shlepping bags onto school buses? The aisles are way too narrow!!
Bloomberg doesn’t care that you or me or anybody else who pays taxes votes for him. He is making all kind of parties for Seniors and jobless people. He makes barbeques for them in state parks he organises shows for them under the banner of the dep for the elderly etc. All those people don’t care how he is destroying the businesses inb the city and how he is taxing the average hard working person who owns a car and owns a house. That is exactly how he plans to win the election. Andb after the election he will drop those seniors like brick and won’t care about them. The MTA is broke how are they going to give free rides to anyone. And the city has so much money to give away, that is why the copsb are working overtime.
i think older people should get rides to shule. then we can all make our cars into taxis and get vouchers for doing mitzvahs. i love it.
Seniors in terms of people grouped by age are the richest group (because they own houses with lots of extra equity). Taxpayers are from those groups with less assets. However, seniors vote. Never let it be said that your votes go to waste!
I’m all for free public transportation as the marginal cost to taxpayers is basically nothing, but taxis are not. Taking from the single parent who can barely afford diapers for their child and increasing their sales tax to pay for taxis for the richest age group.
It’s messed up.
And he’s a republican, what elese is news?
first of all the taxi drivers ” cant see the old people ” the same way they can’t see blacks. second
“William Thompson Jr. points out that the mayor proposed millions of dollars in budget cuts to senior services last year and wanted to close dozens of senior centers.”
perfect just in time 4 the baby boomers.
Did any of you bloggers ever use Access A Ride? NYC pays for these trips and its costing the city lots of money to keep these buses on the road. Anything the Mayor will try to do you guys will say he is wrong. Think before you talk.
Bloomberg is doing the right move to make life easier for the seniors and at the same time saving NYC millions, by giving the seniors a voucher to take taxies instead of wasting money on access a ride.
Smart business man.
