The arrest of a local rabbi triggered a protest by hundreds of members of the Orthodox Jewish community outside police headquarters.
After the rabbi 62, stopped to check on his niece who was pulled over by police 30, a argument and scuffled irrupted, the rabbi was arrested to be charged with resisting arrest, obstructing of justice and assault on a police officer.
But as a result of the protest, police said that an internal affairs investigation has been launched and the County Prosecutor’s Office would be brought in to determine if officer acted appropriately.
Your right and nobody is defending that,
Having said that, if an overly aggressive cop try’s to make an unlawful arrest- although it may be smart to just give in-it is understandable if you don’t. Definitely behavior like that should result in a severe reprimand at best and at worst are grounds for dismissal.
COPS ARE YOUR EMPLOYEES; YOU DON’T HIRE THEM TO PUT IRRITATING OLD PEOPLE IN JAIL.
When a cop tells you to stop, or to put your hands in back to cuff you, you never resists and run away, that doesn’t help.
And who ever doesn’t know this in the US, maybe in some other country they could teach you better.
I’m from Lakewood and the word is (lots of people witnessed the incident) that the cop asked him to leave a couple of times and he finally said okay but what’s your badge #. That must’ve ticked off the cop because he got out of his car to arrest him. The rav tried get away so the cop throws him to the ground with a couple of petch and kneels on top of him cuffing him behind as if he’s some sort of gang banger.
Just remember before u say that he should not have resisted arrest. That although that’s true, there’s no excuse for a cop behaving like that. Remember were dealing w/a62 yr old Rosh yeshiva!!!
