More than 20 police agencies from Rockland, Orange and Sullivan counties sent members of their special tactical units to Monroe-Woodbury High School yesterday to learn how to respond to such a hostage situation. Police academy cadets from Orange and Rockland counties played the roles of 10 hostage-takers and 70-plus students.
The various tactical units, assisted by helicopter patrols, had 12 hours, starting at 9 a.m., to resolve the crisis.[Record]
