Monticello, NY – A former Sullivan County sheriff's deputy pleaded guilty to insurance fraud for allowing a man to crash his Jeep so the insurance company would pay.

Amanda Cox, 25, pleaded guilty in Sullivan County Court to third-degree insurance fraud, a felony. She is the second defendant in the case to plead guilty.
Cox is expected to get a probation sentence. She will repay about $13,000 before she is sentenced on Aug. 15.
Two other men – Edward Kowalik, a former officer with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection – and William Kloss III, who officials say is the man who crashed or burned a lot of cars associated with the scheme – face felony charges of arson and insurance fraud. [record]
