The 2-foot tall scroll was reported stolen by officials from the Orthodox Jewish school when they noticed it had been stolen after finding a broken window at the school, Cottage Grove Police Department investigator Greg Malcolm said.
School officials don't know for sure how old the Torah is, but they think it is around 60 to 70 years old, which would mean it was created around the time of the Holocaust, Malcolm said.
Police aren't sure what motivated the thief or thieves, Malcolm said. They are in the process of interviewing persons of interest in connection with the case. [swcbulletin]
