Technology experts have devised an "intelligent" cart that will alert shoppers when junk-food items are dropped in. Barcodes on foods high in fat, sugar and salt would trigger red warning lights on an interactive screen. And eventually, barcode information may be passed to mobile phones.

The carts are also seen as the way forward to cut down on food packaging. In the future, most information about a product could appear on the computer screen attached to the cart. Besides nutrition and country of origin, the screen would say if the packaging could be recycled.

The new trolley concept is to be unveiled in London today. A trial is already under way using "intelligent" carts at Stop & Shop stores in the United States. [timesonline]

Well if they merge this shopping cart with the controversial new body scanner being tested at JFK, you can shop at a clothing store and the cart will alert you if the item in it won’t fit you.
Heck, now that’s an idea. Cuts the womens shopping time down in half AND no more trying on wrong sizes wasting so much time now!!!

i think better, on every cart there should be a screen and you just enter in what you are looking for and it will tell you what aisle its in!

the same way storeowners program the packages to ring up by the register is hoe they program it to this shopping cart. You dont have to scan every single package.

For this to work you would have to program every single barcode with the hechshir it has, Now which store owner would be interested in doing that? I’ll tell you, No one.

HOW ABOUT THEY DO THE SAME WITH HECHSHEIRIM?

THIS IS HOW IT WILL WORK, YOU PROGRAM IN WHAT HECHSHER IS GOOD FOR YOU AND THE CART WILL ALERT YOU IF YOU DROP IN AN ITEM WHICH IS UNDER YOUR STANDARDS.

DO YOU THINK THIS IS POSSIBLE, AND IF YES WOULD YOU USE THIS OPTION DURING SHOPPING?
