New York, NY – Mayor Bloomberg Wants To Control The Media On His Own Story

New York, NY – New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has taken on a guy who doesn’t bow to pressure easily.

That Bloomberg would pick a fight with Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau demonstrates convincingly that the mayor is guilty of an offense that may not be indictable but is clearly recognized by most New Yorkers. This mayor has chutzpah.

He has accused the district attorney of trying to get publicity by publicizing a crime in which the mayor was the alleged victim. Morgenthau had the temerity to announce that two men had been arrested for allegedly trying to take $400,000 from the mayor’s personal bank account. The thieves bought data from a dealer online.

Morgenthau thought the crime was newsworthy, so he released the facts — and that offended the mayor.

Bloomberg, who made a great fortune in media, wants Morgenthau to suppress the media. He had his chief lawyer, Michael Cardozo, tell the prosecutor that the mayor “doesn’t want this out.”

Morgenthau said he told Cardozo he would not comply. The DA explained that, when somebody is charged with a crime and answers to that charge, he informs the press.

“We don’t conduct star-chamber proceedings,” said Morgenthau. “We think the public has a right to know who’s charged with a crime.”.[wnbc]
