Sarah Conway, who lives near Gants Hill in Essex, was visiting the graves of her father and grandparents at Rainham Cemetery when she noticed several rats crawling at the foot of a nearby gravestone.
“I then saw them go underneath a stone. I felt sick — so much so that I had to leave the graveside. It was like something out of a horror movie.”
Mrs Conway believes there is a “big rat problem at Rainham, which needs to be addressed”.
“I was crying and shaking. This is the worst disrespect that you could show people.”
But Michael Ezra, honorary officer at the Federation of Synagogues, said: “Rainham cemetery does not have a problem with rats.
“There is an occasional sighting of a rodent, but we have a long-standing contact with rodent-control specialists, who visit the site every three weeks.”
“Rainham is a very well-run cemetery and the Federation takes robust steps to ensure we maintain standards,” he said. [thejc]
OK, the cemetery is in contact with professional exterminators. Therefore, what this lady encountered
doesn’t count for anything. What about [promising to try to remedy the situation?!] It’s like someone saying “Don’t confuse me with the facts, I’ve already made up my mind”.
Why is this so surprising, what do we all think goes on at graveyards at night, rodents, cats, etc…..
Well that’s what’s underneath there for every one (most of us) after 120
