Schoharie Valley Farms will soon start shipping carrot slices to more than a million kids in New York City’s 1,400 schools. Farm owner Richard Ball says the deal has been in the works for almost three years.
Crinkle-cut carrot slices will be packaged in single-serving “Carrot Crunchers” bags. They’ll be packaged at Champlain Valley Specialty in Keeseville in Essex County.
State agriculture officials have been working with growers and school districts in a new “Farm to School” program that’s an outgrowth of the state’s “Pride of New York” effort to promote state food products.
As more farmers get involved and processing capability grows, more school districts are expected to get New York-grown veggie snacks. [AP]
VIN News has contacted Valley Farms and they told us that Yeshivas and private schools can also benefit from this.
All thanks to our activist Mayor!
First he tried to make us healthier by banning Smoking indoors. Then he went on to Trans-Fat. From there we arrived at the healthy snacks, all wrapped up in recycled plastic (bags?). In the end, we sill come out healthy and smart. (at least some of us)

How about the junk food children are getting from home. I have heard from some Menahalim who tried to enforce that parents should not send anything for recess, and there was zero cooperation from the parents.
What A Shame!
Great idea for Yeshivos to serve healthy foods . I hope it becomes a law to give the our children healthy food and stop with the Junk they get in schools.
If the carrots are pre-cut do they need Hashgacha? If so, which would Valley Farms get?
